Painting UPVC

Painting UPVC

Despite what many people think, it is possible to paint over UPVC, often referred to as PVC. Many windows, doors and roofing systems are now made from UPVC as it is virtually maintenance free, the only problem is that you are limited to a small amount of colours and changing the colour of it by painting it has not always been possible. Now painting UPVC is possible by using a special coat of paint that etches into the surface of the upvc, making it possible to paint over it with a normal oil based paint.

There are now several commercially available products that can be used in order to make it possible to paint UPVC-

  • Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3
  • International Paints UPVC primer
  • Ronseal UPVC paint
  • Owatrol ESP primer ( easy surface primer )

I have tried all of the above products and the best and cheapest is the Owatrol ESP primer, it can also be used on-

  • MELAMINE
  • FORMICA
  • PVC
  • GLASS
  • TILES
  • OLD VARNISH / GLOSS
  • MIRRORS
  • STAINLESS
  • BRASS
  • FIBREGLASS
