How to Paint wood
Painting wood is not as easy as it first seems. Because wood used to be a living product, certain precautions have to be taken. The wood must be dry before painting as painting wood that is damp will eventually cause the paint to flake or peel off from the timber. You can test the bare wood before you paint it by using an electronic damp meter.

Bare wood will also require Knotting solution applying to the knots in the wood. If you do not apply knotting solution to the knots, there is a good chance that the sap from the knot will bleed through the paint and ruin the paint job.

When using solvent based paints use a natural bristle brush
-
When using water based paints use a synthetic bristle brush
For a high gloss finish best results can be achieved by applying two coats of undercoat and two coats of gloss. Apply the paint in both directions and finish off the last coat in the direction of the grain of the wood.
