How to Paint kitchen units

Painting kitchen units is a very easy way to give your kitchen a face lift and it is much cheaper then replacing the kitchen units. Kitchen units are often covered with melamine or Formica, which is difficult to paint over and so special techniques are required.

  • The most important job is to wash them down thoroughly with sugar soap to remove all traces of grease and household polish and cleaners.
  • Apply a special primer that is suitable for painting over kitchen units, two coats of primer often gives the best results. Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 or Esp Primer are two suitable primers.
  • Now give them two coats of your chosen top coat paint. Dulux Diamond quick drying satinwood is a popular choice, or egg shell finish paint.

satinwood Dulux Satinwood is a beautiful satin finish specially designed for use on interior wood and metal, including radiators. It is a subtle, attractive alternative to gloss. It is just as hard wearing and washable as gloss.

In order to get the best finish possible on the units you can use a gloss roller, this will ensure even coverage and will ensure that there are no brush marks.
