Tiling a kitchen Floor

So you are considering tiling your kitchen floor and you are not 100% sure about what choices to make? Hopefully this page will offer you some good pointers.

A common question when tiling a kitchen floor is "should I tile the complete floor or should I just tile beneath the base unit plinth"

My advice would be to tile the complete floor before fitting the kitchen base units.

  • Firstly you will only save a few dollars if you do tile up to the kitchen base units.
  • Then if you have kitchen appliances that are not integrated you may find that you have problems removing the machines if the kitchen has not been fully tiled.
  • If you decide to replace your kitchen units you might also have to replace the floor if you tile up to the plinth.

This Kitchen has had the units fitted first and then the tiled floor has been laid, this has left some very difficult cuts for the floor tiler.
